The National Greek Fraternity
and Sorority Awards™ is an evolved concept for "special" Greek-letter organization members and step teams that began in mid 1999
when Tim Carthon's
most recent stepping choreography (performed
by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity®, Inc.,
Delta Xi Chapter) had received a flawless
performance scoring, said to be the first
ever in university history.
He wanted to take stepping choreography to
new heights. Concepts began being mentally developed.
Different forms of stepping choreography and rhythms
began being tested with step teams. Crowd feel and
changes began being mentally recorded...all in preparation
for the day when the team of Greek All-Stars™ was
to be introduced...onstage, hence, The
National Greek Fraternity and Sorority Awards™ was born!
This
rare, “Academy Awards®”-type,
red carpet event turns off the on and offstage aggression
and stress of competitive Greek step show competitions.
Instead, it brings individuals of different fraternities
and sororities, groups, ethnicities, and gender all togetherfor a huge, celebratory evening of
warmth, cheers, empowerment, awarding of accomplishments,
and overwhelming support of all non-participating
and participating individuals and national organizations.
Created
by Step Master Tim Carthon, a made member of Kappa
Kappa Psi® N.H.B. Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi
Alpha® Fraternity, Inc., and the Prince Hall
Order of Free and Accepted Masons, this All-Star-studded Greek Showcase is designed specifically to foster "education
through unity" amongst our youth through the
direct example of cooperation and collaboration
between different university undergraduate Greek-letter
organizations and their members, which our youth
so greatly admire. The National Greek Fraternity
and Sorority Awards™ also provides a college scholarship for one high
school student (or students) that will help toward
ensuring a higher education and a brighter future
for them and their families.
There to be awarded for excellence in academics,
community service, organization involvement, and
positive campus, local, regional, national, and
international impact, the nation's top Greek fraternity
and sorority members combine academic achievement
with the art of rugged and graceful forms of dance,
the creativity of visual arts, and the rhythmic
and visual mastery of stepping. Tis a holistic-approach
concept, a unique, brilliant blend of Greek organizations
with performing arts and academic excellence acknowledgement,
conceived, born, choreographed, and brought to life
onstage by Step Master and Showcase Choreographer
Tim Carthon.
